Orthopedics > Conditions treated > Pseudoarthrosis (unhealed fractures)
Pseudoarthrosis is a condition in which fractured bone does not heal naturally, even months after the trauma. Instead of bone consolidation, abnormal mobility occurs between the bone fragments, resembling a false joint.
Common causes: lack of stability during the healing process, poor vascularization, local infection or failed surgery.
Symptom: persistent pain in the fracture site, abnormal mobility, lack of healing progression on X-rays, swelling or chronic discomfort.
Treatment: depending on localization and severity, treatment may include surgical revision, the use of bone grafts, supporting implants or external fixators. The aim is to restore bone continuity and normal function.
