Olecranon fracture affects the protruding part of the ulna (ulna ulnaris), located behind the elbow joint. It is a common fracture, especially following direct falls on the elbow or severe trauma.
Symptom: Severe elbow pain, local edema, inability to extend the forearm and sometimes visible deformity. The diagnosis is established by X-ray.
Treatment: Non-displaced fractures can be treated conservatively with splint immobilization. Unstable or displaced ones require surgery for refixing fragments, followed by functional recovery.
