Knee turn

Knee sprain is a traumatic lesion of the capsuloligamentous apparatus of the knee joint, which is caused by a sudden and brutal movement torsion, extension or forced flexion. May or may not be accompanied by meniscal injuries and is considered one of the most common traumatic orthopedic conditions after ankle sprains.

Causes: Occurs mainly following sports injuries (football, skiing, handball), falls or sudden pivots of the knee, especially when the foot is fixed on the ground.

Symptom: Acute pain, rapid inflation (edema), instability to go, movement limitation knee and sometimes a 'popping' sensation at the time of injury. Depending on the severity, hematoma or joint locking may also occur.

Treatment: In mild forms, it is recommended rest, local ice, Compression, elevation (RICE protocol), followed by physiotherapy. In moderate or severe sprains, it may be necessary to knee immobilization, further investigations (MRI) and sometimes, surgery to repair damaged ligaments or menisci.
