Subacromial impingement occurs when rotator hub tendons are compressed between the humeral head and the acromion (the top of the shoulder blade), especially during arm raising movements.
Rotator cuff tendinopathies is chronic damage to tendons (inflammation, degeneration or partial tears), often caused by overuse, repetitive trauma or degenerative changes with age.
Symptom: shoulder pain (especially at night and with overhead movements), decreased mobility and strength, the feeling of "catching" or locking in the joint.
Treatment: in mild and moderate forms, it is recommended physiotherapy, anti-inflammatory drugs and local infiltrations. In severe or ruptured cases, it may be necessary to surgery (arthroscopic or open) for decompression or reconstruction.
