Idiopathic ischemic necrosis of the femoral head (Chandler's disease)

Avascular necrosis of the femoral head, also known as Chandler disease, is a serious condition in which blood flow to the femoral head is interrupted, leading to bone cell death.

Causes: They can be multiple: trauma, alcoholism, prolonged corticosteroids, hematologic disorders. It can also be idiopathic, with no known cause.

Symptom: Hip pain, initially on exertion, then at rest, progressive limitation of mobility.

Treatment: Early stages - Support download, vasoactive medicines. In advanced forms, it requires total hip replacement.
