Ankle arthrosis

Ankle arthritis is a degenerative disorder of the tibiotalar joint, characterized by progressive wear of the articular cartilage. It can occur as a result of repeated trauma (sprains, fractures), overuse or chronic inflammatory disease.

Symptoms include persistent pain in the ankle, which is worse with walking or exertion, joint stiffness, local edema and limited mobility. In advanced stages, there may be visible deformities or difficulty supporting weight on the affected limb.

Treatment conservative consists of physiotherapywearing adapted footwear, anti-inflammatory medicines and infiltrations. In severe cases, it may be recommended arthrodesis or joint replacement.
