He had suffered a myocardial infarction in the past that could lead to sudden death and already had a similar device fitted whose leads (special metal wires) were placed through blood vessels. This exposes the leads to sometimes irreparable damage over time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The man's extremely active life meant that on two occasions the leads attached to the cardiac defibrillator, positioned in the heart to stimulate the heart's activity, broke. Such events can happen to any patient who has such devices fitted because the durability of the leads is limited over time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the solutions applied in such situations is the removal and replacement of broken catheters, a frequent and successful procedure performed by the medical team at Clinicco Hospital. Given the patient's active lifestyle, the placement of new leads could have led to repeated lead breakage, which is why a subcutaneous defibrillator was chosen. The team formed by Dr. Horia Ro\u0219ianu and Dr. Sorin Micu, both primary cardiologists with experience in the field of implantable devices, performed a new first for Clinicco Hospital Brasov.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The subcutaneous cardioverter defibrillator is implanted intermuscularly in the left armpit, without the need for leads (special metal wires) to be guided through the blood vessels to the heart. They are placed directly under the skin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\"This patient's diagnosis is very serious, heart rhythm disturbances that can lead to sudden death. That is why he had a classic defibrillator fitted for a long time.
